When it rains...

It pours. This seems like a very applicable saying for this week. Yesterday evening carried with it one of the most amazing rainstorms that I have seen since Brazil and in some ways the classic feelings that come with rain – forlorn, homesickness, and a strange sense of retribution.

It was a fitting end to this week, which will undoubtedly go down as one of the more difficult times for me here. Between the difficulties of trying to figure out the stressful system for enrolment at Carlos III, the intensity of moving from Ana’s house to my new place and getting over everything at home – I am exhausted and the exchange has barely begun!

My friend Andrea said it best though, in some ways its best to feel horrid near the beginning of an exchange because at least I have months to “get over it.” Every day here is an adventure, and can you really ask for a better way to put things in perspective than that?

So, at the risk of sounding super duper cliché, I hope that everyone who is feeling bad, sad, hurt, worried, homesick, or lonely remembers to find a way to think of the rain as another kind of adventure. Maybe a depressing and wet one, but sometimes those are the best lessons.

Mucho Amor,

Rob
